School-Based Program
The J.O.Y. Foundation’s school-based program operates on a nine-month cycle from April to December. Designed to run twice per week, each session includes two hours of engaging curriculum-based instruction followed by an hour of peer support and guided group discussion. Sessions may also be adapted to take place during school lunch periods once a month, offering flexible engagement within the academic schedule.
Our curriculum supports the seven core pillars of J.O.Y., with weekly workshops, peer-led check-ins, and dynamic group activities that nurture personal growth, leadership, and empowerment. Topics include—but are not limited to—healthy relationships, social and cultural awareness, goal setting, identity development, and self-esteem.
Each session blends developmentally appropriate instruction with enriching experiences such as field trips, creative arts, professional development activities, and opportunities for community service and advocacy.
Peer support groups are a cornerstone of the program and meet twice weekly under the guidance of a trained mentor or facilitator. These groups explore relevant and culturally responsive topics such as:
Girl Empowerment & Girl Talk
Cultivating Confidence and Self-Worth
Mental Health & Emotional Wellness
Social Media & Self-Image
Financial Literacy
Leadership Development
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
In addition to the school-year program, J.O.Y. offers a Summer SYEP program, delivered as an accelerated six-week experience from June to August. This summer curriculum builds on the same core values while emphasizing job readiness, creativity, and real-world leadership application.
